Naive of me

Well Haagen dags ice cream was on offer and I bought a few vanilla and a baileys ice cream, which is still in my freezer unopened. Just sat here at work and realised ' is this alcoholic ice cream'
I didn't really think it had baileys in it, any insight SR friends. My husband can have it if it is.

Hi KateL, too right! Thats why I called myself naive, it says it on the tin! I really didn't think alcohol in food was really alcohol, like Listerine, unbelievable. Yes, you can't be too careful. Think I might have a go at my my own ice cream, I'll know what's in it then!

whenever I want a straight answer I look for halal pages, as alcohol is generally forbidden in strict Muslim diets.

The 411 from Haagen Dasz itself is:

Muslims may wish to avoid Häagen-Dazs products containing alcohol for example Baileys ice cream and Häagen-Dazs Baileys Stick Bar products which contain less than 0.5% alcohol per 100 ml of product. For your information, some of our ice cream (e.g. Vanilla based) contain a very small amount of alcohol (0.20%) due to the flavor which is alcohol based.
World Halal Quest: Haagen Dazs ice-cream..Ben & Jerry

Not sure where you got the 4% from, Skye?

I had a meal that was cooked in red wine ..i had no idea , it was delicious and i found out after we had eaten it . This was just after I got sober .

It never made me want to drink or desire the meal again though . How do we constantly monitor ? Its impossible !

Thanks Skye. I read that as Baileys is 4% of the product not 4% alcohol per volume

I had an experience with a different brand half a pint of rum and raisin ice cream a while ago …
didn't taste quite right eating it, it had a rough edge … well my regular rum and raisin is ok … i started feeling ill and i was sick everywhere .. i looked on the label and it was 3% rum which was 35% alcohol ..
Lesson learned ! To check ingredients before eating stuff & also i've learned alcohol actually makes me violently sick these days …
Maybe it's psychosomatic, maybe it's physical, i never intend to find out .

Bestwishes, m

You know i have rum n raisin chocolate e very day since I've quit ...is that a bad thing ? I was more concerned about the sugar . Wouldn't imagine they would pay for real rum !

Seems to me only you can answer that Snoozy , is it bad for your sobriety ? …
i used to like the fruit and nut chocolate bar here in the UK

I used to drink to get drunk , so i avoid anything "alcoholic" .. i used to find R&R ice cream ok , now i don't … plenty of flavourful ones out there without me "sticking my head in the lions mouth" .

Again, it wouldn't trigger me. If it's not in a glass and wiggling it's finger at me, i'm honestly not tempted Xx
