Heading in the right direction

I am new to recovery, to quitting drinking and to actually living my life.
I finally told someone about my struggle, then went to my first AA meeting and even called my dad and told him about my struggle (he is recovered 16 years) It felt so good to have my secret out finally. The first week I cried everyday, then I drank again. The second week I cried too but towards the end I couldn't let mysel feel nostalgic anymore. I hate that feeling. I kinda just ignored it this last week and I feel ok, better than sad but I drank again. I have to just get off this merry go round once and for all.
I don't know what to do but I'm going to a meeting tomorrow. I guess I just do what I know to do......??

Welcome, JennJ! You're right, the merry-go-round is exhausting. The hardest part was admitting to myself that I had a problem. I've been off the ride now for almost 13 months, and it literally gets better each day.

Hi Jennj,

I got sober at 22. Didn't understand how anything worked. Had a few false starts but when I just tried to take the steps and live by AA principles, the drinking stopped, almost as a by-product of my new way of life.

I understand it a bit better now. Hard to believe a hopeless case like me could be given so much. I wish the same for you.
