Arrow Weekend Thread! Holiday Edition! Stay sober through "T" day here!

The holidays conjure up deep feelings for me. Some warm and some not so warm.

Past crack Christmases. Month long benders. Words at holiday parties that seem to live on long after the party was over. I have a list of things I should have gotten a lump of coal for doing... Or not doing.

The thing to know is YOU are NOT ALONE!

What ever the emotions holiday time brings to you remember they are just emotions.... in January and February, December will seem far away. Craving and urges cannot harm you so just let them pass with jolly ole Saint Nick overhead and off to some far away place.

Simpler said than done but thats why there are people here on SR that care and want to offer YOU support this holiday weekend.

And I encourage YOU to also offer a word about how you are managing these days.

Let's see the weekenders all make it through.

If you don't or if you need more help please remember to post on the main boards as well. We don't want anyone to feel ignored and sometimes a long weekend thread can mask a need.

Dee and Anna move many really helpful threads to the top. Ideas that work if you work them.

So what are YOU doing this weekend?

Where might YOU be traveling?

What family fun or not so much fun are YOU faced with?

I happen to be physically alone this holiday weekend. I would have been afraid. But I have YOU. So... Thank you!

Join in!

Ken

Sky.... Yes... I started today because people have off and travel today. So this will go straight through.

m and I thought a Yankee should start the thread since you don't have the holiday.

Many struggle even more at this time. I know I need all the support I can get.

Thanks for joining in early!

i'm going to my brother's for dinner...my nephew's baby mama annoys me she's a typical milk the system type, wont marry my nephew, too lazy to work(she is a paralegal and could do part time) even though she has free babysitting from my sil and her family, ( the baby is going on 4)...she drinks too much, smokes and doesn't exercise....
i live alone, i have 4 cats , 1 kitten and a little dog...there is currently a mouse in my kitchen, drives me crazy...my cats are useless. i need a swat team.
i plan to cook thanksgiving rerun dinner on Saturday.

Miss Fandy.... Absolutely love that this mouse found a warm safe place to live with 4.5 cats around. Lol

There were never to many people that erked me in the family. But if I had to be around someone like that I might feel the same way.

I am making a full dinner anyway. Brining the turkey. Making a sausage stuffing. I love the food. And need something to do. I used to be at the bar from Wednesday morning till Sunday night.

What is the meal like - is it like a full Christmas dinner?

Thanksgiving dinner growing up for me was a big Italian event.

So my mother started off in the morning with a big breakfast.

The through out the day we had everything from a big antipasto, lasagne, then on to turkey with stuffing ( in the bird) and a veggie and mashed potatoes. Cranberry sauce and so on.

So yeah... Very much like Christmas dinner.

My mom always made a ricotta pie with chocolate morsels in it. Sweet and tasty!

The holidays were never big drinking times for me. In fact, I would throttle back because there was so much going on I would be on my best behavior. (I was always a private drunk...)

But I'm In!

Two years ago I was working with the US military in East Africa. There were a few UK personnel stationed with us. Among them a young, charming, female sergeant who was looking forward to experiencing our Thanksgiving dinner. She talked about it for weeks.

On The Day the dining facility pulled out all the stops, so there was a huge line. It was while we waited in line that she mentioned she was a vegan.

it is always GRAVY!
yes weasey, she unfriended me on fb, because i responded to a rant she made that people overage 65 should not be allowed to drive...i told her to remember that when she asked for free babysitters ( my nephews parents are recently retired and do everything for them, and their grandson).

Say hello!

And non... That's interesting that you drink less. But I get why.

Not much, as I recall.

I was also in Africa for Thanksgiving in 2009. That year Thanksgiving happened to coincide with a Muslim holiday requiring fasting. So,the fat Americans were feasting and the skinny Africans were fasting at the same time. Seemed rather peculiar.
