Wrapped up day 6....feeling better but Thanksgiving approaches...

I just wrapped up day 6 and beginning to feel better. Nearly gave in yesterday but stayed strong, took a long shower and went to bed early.

We are hosting Thanksgiving for the family which typically involves much wine drinking. I already stocked up on the supply before my quit.... I feel pretty strong right now and think I can avoid the urge. Any tips for a forum newbie?

Yes, don't serve the wine.

You'll only be sober 8 days on Thanksgiving, that is a lot of temptation that early in recovery. You've got the alcohol readily available, everyone else drinking, and the stress of cooking & hosting the dinner. That is a lot of pressure.

I am also hosting Thanksgiving. Due to our daughter's early recovery (80 days), I told everyone, that I would not be serving alcohol and they were not to bring it. Everyone has been super supportive of our daughter and had no problem abstaining for the day.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks Leana. Very good points. My wife is extremely supportive and I know my extended family would be also. I didn't think about the pressure of hosting and how "taking the edge off" might be too tempting. Thanks again. I appreciate this forum!
