netflix recommendations
I'm not sure if it's on Netflix in the US but I'd recommend 'Rachel Getting Married' with Anne Hathaway. She plays a drug addict, struggling with recovery who gets 'released' from rehab to attend her sister's wedding. The film shows her dealing with being under everyone's watchful eyes at a family event and with relationships past and present. It's a bit harrowing at times but has some funny bits thrown in to lighten it up.
I watched Flight again last night on Netflix and, boy, was it helpful. I had watched it several months ago at a time when I was still drinking heavily. It's so interesting to see it now from the standpoint of being in recovery myself. I recommend it, too. Plus, Denzel always does an amazing acting job... Thumbs up!
Adding to great suggestions from others, I'll add two that may be slightly off-topic:
1. "Stuart Saves His Family" -- Yes, Stuart Smalley of SNL fame. I think this movie is both gentle and hysterically funny. And spot on in so many ways. A reminder that we need to laugh in recovery.
2. "Silver Linings Playbook" -- More along the lines of a movie about mental health, it still resonated with me. At its core, it *is* about trying to get better.

Just saw that one! Liked it! And I thought I had seen them all.

I second the reccomendation for Flight. When he said, at the end, "I can't tell one more lie".. I so related to that. That's the self honesty / rock bottom moment we all need to propel us into this way of life.

Young Adult starring Charlize Theron - by Diablo Cody.
I am Mavis. It was a hard comparison to make but it is why I am sober now. Mavis' alcoholism is the same as mine-laughed at, ridiculed, dismissed.
Charlize Theron is my favorite actress of all time and her performance is just icing on the cake. Young Adult is a very uncensored and real look at alcoholism.

I watched the beginning of it and haven't yet finished it... with your recommendation I will have to go ahead and try watching it again

It is truly a movie that you have to watch from start to end. You will probably hate Mavis more at the end than you did at the start-but she is us, an alcoholic.
