Just relapsed

I relapsed hard and now feel like death. My guts hurt, my head is foggy and I feel like a slug. My god I want this pain to go away? Why do I keep doing this to myself? Ugh.

Hope you feel better soon. I think 'why?' is part of the problem, it promotes the idea that there is a resolvable underlying reason. Alcohol is toxic and addictive.

Why do any of us do that to ourselves? Because we're alcoholics, that's why. Now forgive yourself, learn from it, and move forward again.

It's like the big book says. The insanity of taking that first drink, when you know it'll end up in a binge.

Write down how you feel. The next time drinking pops into your mind go read what you wrote. The point is not to forget how awful you feel. For whatever reason alcohol erases that memory.

I don't think it is about forgetting what a hangover feels like, c'mon that is practically muscle memory it happens enough.
Its about your mindset, the part of you that knows what the price for being drunk is(all of the costs) and deciding to drink anyway. The pain of drinking is not the hangover, the pain is repeatedly being willing to endure the costs. The anxiety, shame, guilt, physical withdrawal the damage to professional and family lives is not something you forget like keys on the counter , we ignore or severly discount them and pay the price.
Close the account , quit (paying) it is not worth it.

I agree, write it down right now!!! I slipped, wrote it down, took pics (of my bruises from falling) and have moved on. You CAN start over!

Hi trez

the really good thing is you never need feel this way again

Think about what you have been doing for your recovery - what can you add to that? what areas need improvement? are there other changes to your life that you could make to help?

you can do this

D
