Almost 6 months, a little pink cloudish, the top 3 reasons I made it this far
Almost 6 months and if anyone said I'd make it this far I don't think I would have believe it. For anyone new coming in I hope the following helps.
Here are the top 3 reasons I am still sober today.
1. I found things that took up my time when I had cravings and was unwilling to make any excuse for drinking.
2. When I was craving I would repeat in my head, "this is going to go away, it will pass". It really does. While repeating that I would refer back to practicing #1 because it's monumental in expediting getting the craving to go away.
3. I was as happy as I made up my mind to be. Harder said than done but with practice it works. Additionally, I found that if I wasn't happy, that wasn't really the case, it was the AV working on finding excuses for me to drink.
This is not to say that my program of choice didn't help, it gave me the foundation that I needed to carry through on items 1 and 3 above. Also not to say that it wasn't hard work at times but oh, it is all so worth it.
I realize that I am a little pink cloudish at this particular point in time, which I recognize for me around goal dates (30 days, 60, 90 etc) but I've become used to this. For newcomer's that's when you're so ecstatic that you're sober it's like you're floating along on a little pink cloud with puppies holding kittens. It's a great feeling that comes and goes. Just be mindful of it and know that's ok, you're getting your sobriety legs and everything will even out.
You have to find what works for you but I thought I'd offer what's done it for me thus far.
You CAN do this!

Always love love love your posts Lady. I used to feel ratty and envious, even despairing for myself at times - to be honest - when reading success posts (just like yours and Baby Jane's re her 1 year); now, I'm going to damn well enjoy them and soak in the inspiration!
