Hi all.
17 days sober after a 12 pack a day for more years than I want to think about. The worst of the detox appears to be over and so far no alcohol cravings at all. Unfortunately it seems I broke my liver. Waiting on test results to see just how bad off it is.
Anyway, thank you for the site. It's been a great help over the last few weeks.

Welcome to SR! Well done on 17 days sober! I'm glad to hear that this site has helped out. I know it definitely has been a huge help for me!
Sending good thoughts your way that your tests come back with positive results.

Congrats to you. I am 12 days now thats its after midnite on the west coast.
I too drank a ^*%* load of beer for the last 45 years. Just had my liver checked and had a call from the Dr. Red flag definitely. Made me think about how I was spending my time, money and the "friends" I have. I have 2 young grandsons that live a block away and feel so fortunate to be able to spend time with them.I want to enjoy the next twenty years with them in a clear state of mind. Not in a daze or drunk. My little 2.5 year old buddy only knows about 25 words and Papa's beer are two of them. TIME FOR A CHANGE.
Good luck and best wishes to you and me. We can beat this demon.
As someone said, "its not about what you are giving up, its about what you are gaining"
Will look forward to your posts and updates.

Welcome to SR!
While you may have done some physical damage to yourself by your years of heavy drinking, the bodies ability to recover and repair itself is pretty amazing.
When your medical results come back ask your doctor about a program of physical recovery. What would he recommend with regard to exercise, diet, etc., then follow his recommendations.
