Newbie

Hi everyone, 19 days since my last drink. Longest I've made it in roughly 5 years. Was convinced I was a 'functional alcoholic' for the longest time, as I continued to succeed in college and professional school. My roommate OD'ed on pain pills+benzos about a year ago and things changed. I quit messing with other drugs around that time, but my drinking escalated to 1-1.5 fifths of whiskey daily.

Still having many cravings every day, and dreaming of drinking every night, but at least I'm finally sleeping some. Best I've felt in years. Congrats to all of you on your sobriety, it's very inspiring to read your stories.

Hello and welcome.

It's inspirering to read your story, too. I'm glad you realize you have a problem now so you can save yourself the misery I went through for thirty years.
You may have drinking dreams for awhile, but they won't get you drunk and the cravings will lessen over time.

Glad to have you here and post as often as you like.

Welcome and good job on 19 days. That is an accomplishment. It does get easier over time.

Do you have a support network to talk to about your thoughts and dreams of drinking? I have found it helps me to get rid of urges to drink by simply admitting to someone that I am thinking about it. If you don't have a network in place yet, or aren't into AA meetings you can come on here. It is a good place to be. We are all in much the same boat.

Keeping each other from sinking.
