Is tapering down a good idea?

I'm trying to quit drinking, I went on a bad binge last week. I'm fearing the withdraw symptoms and I did slow down a lot. Any advice?

Talk to your dr and then stop drinking.

Most of us here have tried tapering many times and it doesn't work for alcoholics. In fact, we usually end up worse than when we started.

I know it's not the best idea, but I did it before and it did work. Just it seems tougher this time around.

I agree with Anna, a doctor can give you something to help so you can get off the booze immediately. I detoxed at home by myself after a sever 4 month bender and involved at least a liter of vodka or bourbon a day with several high alcohol content micro brews. My first 5 days were rough. Hand tremors, anxiety, depression, cramps, vomiting, restlessness at night when trying to sleep. On day 5 I felt better and my symptoms were better but then the emotional part began. I was cleaning my house trying to stay occupied and would find myself crying. I read that the emotional roller coaster I was on was normal and was caused by my brain trying to chemically realign itself without the alcohol. I am on day 10 now and almost all of the symptoms are gone and I am able to sleep pretty good now .

Welcome MilonZ

I think, if anyone is that concerned about withdrawal, they should consult a Dr anyway.
Hope you did, or plan too
