I'm 6 months- about on the halfway mark to where you are, but I've heard brain fog can last a really long time in recovery. I'm experiencing the same problems as well, I thought it was ADD or something, who knows it could be an attentional thing.
Do you exercise your mind? Read? Learn new things? Do you eat right? I found the more I worked my mind (learning guitar) and ate healthy, exercised, the faster my mind snapped back. Your body is filled with toxins due to the abuse. You need to get those toxins out. Eating healthy, exercise, and working that mind muscle will do wonders.
Thanks Babe. Hate to say I felt smarter when I drank, but so far. Smarter does not equal better though and I am know that when the fog clears. ya know.
Duane I do exercise my mind quite a bit. Candy crush saga ya know. Lol JK. I read and do a lot of stimulating activity. I eat well some days, others not. I think overall my health has improved 10 fold in sobriety.

Joe, great to hear. You are doing the right things. Mine took a while to come back. I'm at 18 months now and I am probably not 100%. Probably never will be. I got enough back though.
Hi Soberjoe -- congratulations on almost a year, sounds like you got sober almost the same time as I did.
I'd have to know more what "brain fog" you're experiencing, but I still have times where my brain feels -- well, foggy is a pretty good word. Not the complete mothball mocus state I was in for about the first 4 months, but just periodic dead zones. When no amount of coffee can help me concentrate. I might lose track of an argument, for instance. And reading continues to be very difficult.
I kind of wonder if nonalcoholics have these mental black holes, too?

I can only say the feeling is foggy, dizzy, unclear. But the term mocus is likely in the AA dictionary for just such cases as ours. I am happy to know you guys/gals are experiencing it las we'll. although I wish you did not have to deal with it. I guess my activities had affected my brains health and let the healing continue. Now that I am here, I am happy to wait/do whatever is required to continue "getting better". Congrats to my brothers and sisters. Thanks for being there for me tonight. I did notice we are all NYers. nY in the forum. Lol.
