New and thankful
Hi all,
I am new here. I did not know this forum existed until today when I did a google search. This seems to be exactly what I was looking for.
I have been trying to get sober for the past 10 years. I have been trying to get sober SERIOUSLY for the past 7 months and I keep failing. I am always around alcohol and drugs, I find it so hard to say no. I feel like I am letting my friends and family down by not drinking. Crazy?

Welcome and I'm so glad you have come here! You will find tons of people going through what you are who can support you along the way. Coming home and reading on here always helps give me the motivation I need to stay on the path to sobriety.
Welcome to SR bleary.
If you SERIOUSLY want to get sober your friends and family will understand.
They may even follow your example when they see positive changes in your life and actions.
You can not fail at being sober if you do not drink.

Hi Bleary - welcome
alcohol and drugs were always around me too - so I made the decision to compeltely change my life. It was hard, but really no more hard than drinking all day like I was.
Look at your friends, look at the places you hang out in - make some changes and find some sober support.
It will be hard for a while, but you'll be glad you did

I had to avoid certain places and friends when I quit drugs many many years ago, I think alcohol is harder because it's legal and it's for sale everywhere and I everybody I know drinks except my mother in law, I hate to think I'll be avoiding the few old friend I have left but till I've been sober for a while I'm going to. Good luck, it's not an easy road but drinking and drugs is harder still.

Do they encourage you to drink? How can you be letting them down if you are sober? I don't understand that at all.
