Hello Sober Recovery - I missed you!!!
First day out of the Lakeside-mil am recovery center. 28 days and it wasn't too bad. I learned a lot about alcoholism and about me. All your advice was spot on. Thank you. It is good to be back!!!!
Lakeside-Milam is a rehab taylored
after the book Under the Influence. Milam co wrote the book. The days are 16 hours long, breakfast, lunch and dinner are mandatory, along with lectures, films, therapy, AA meetings ending at 9pm every night. Detox consists of three days of Librium with a fourth day to taper off. There are 105 beds, all young men and about 15 females. We share bedrooms with another girl, with a jack and Jill bathroom connecting to another bedroom with another two girls I it. So 4 to a bathroom. Or if your unlucky, three girls to each room, so 6 to a bathroom. Bed check at 10:45pm and again at 2am. Roll call throughout the day to make sure you are where you are supposed to be. No caffeine, sugar, internet, cell phone, exercise room, TV, reading material other than recovery books. No blow dryers, curling irons, clippers, scissors, nail polish, perfume, after shave allowed in the room. These items are checked at the desk where you can go get them, use them and return them. Drugs are dispensed by the counselor, even the Tylenol. The program is focused on spiritual, mental, physical and emotional health. I don't have any comparison to another program, but I was very pleased with this one. Follow the rules and the counselors will be good to you. Try to get over on them and your time could be miserable. Lots of reading and writing assignments. Like a boot camp...beds and pillows not to comfortable but your not in bed a lot. I loved what they taught.
