Teardrop - please be reassured no one here is giving you a hard time - I think some people just wanted to reassure you and others passing through that this is not normal at SMART Recovery meetings. And for my part, I wanted to know which meeting it was so we can get a volunteer to drop by or check out what is going on there.
In your message you have given enough information to track this down - so thanks for that and I'm sorry you had such a bad experience of SMART Recovery. I can promise you this isn't the norm, but you need to go to meetings where you know you will be comfortable so if you have an AA meeting that feels safe to you then that is clearly the right place to be.. In many years of AA attendance, especially early on, people who had recently been drinking and smelled like it were welcome as long as they were not distracting during the meeting. To me that showed a desire to stop drinking which is a needed characteristic for stopping drinking.
