depression in early sobriety????

WOW, I have been hit by the depression bug the last few days. I am trying SO HARD to think of the positives of sobriety, but all I want to do is be left alone and not talk to anyone. I still go to meetings every day, and I love going, but when I am home or at work I feel like I don't belong. I hope this will pass because boy does it suck!

As difficult as it might seem to do, try some exercise. At least 25 mins, every other day at minimum. It has been shown to improve mood.

My sobriety date (this time) is October 15th...so I am right behind you! Yes, I was depressed for a few days as well....but I did (finally) start walking and working out...even tried some yoga....felt soooooo much better! Trying to make it a part of my daily routine now!

I think it's important to remember the last few days have been pretty full on for you anchorbird - I'd be surprised if you weren't rocked back on your heels a little bit...

there are some good suggestions here tho - exercise is good, gratitude lists are good, journalling, doing something good for yourself, doing something good for others

if you feel concerned tho, obviously the Dr will be your best bet.
Hope the funk lifts soon :)

Exercise has been saving (and shaping! lol) my ass for months. Gives me a nice feeling of being in control of my appearance (after numerous years of feeling out of control this is a nice change) in addition to a physiological boost and less health-related anxiety in the deal, too (also helps me fill in all this spare time, lols)

I hear ya, it sucks. I seem to have gone into a bit of a funk too.
I'm limited in what exercise I can do atm but I'm trying to do some.
I hope it lifts for you soon!

Thanks everyone. Yes, I exercise every single day by either a good hard workout at the gym or a long walk with my dog.

It is almost 7pm and I just want to go to bed. I have been sleeping 10 hours a night. Maybe this is just my body saying its ok to be calm and to try to relax. Time will tell.

Good morning anchorbird! Is today any better?

LadyBlue0527 11-03-2013 04:33 AM

Hi anchorbird,

There's a lot of ups and downs on this journey and what you're going through is normal. Look at it like a breakup from a long term relationship that was dragging you into the pits. No matter how bad it was you're still going to be a bit depressed. That depression eventually dissipates and you have some great times coming. Hang in there, this gets sooooo much better!

This board is essential, lots of people for support and who have been through exactly what you're feeling.
