I'm on day 5 the pain in my side is starting to go away.
Still feel confused, but one day at a time
can anyone tell me what's next?
I figure you cant drink heavy for years and not to have any side effects.
I live on my own and am not a fool, I know its not going to be easy, so any advice please feel free

Welcome to SR,Sue1959.
And congrats on 5 day of sobriety.
Did you do through any of the terrible detox?
Glad you found this site. There's a lot of nice folks here that have been through and are going through staying sober.

Good work on 5 days. You will still likely deal with PAWS. Don't give up. It caused me to relapse. I'm back at it. One day at a time. When they say it gets better each day it's true. Just keep in mind that's not necessarily linear. Don't give in on a bad day!
Hello, and welcome. You've found a great place.
In my opinion, what's going to happen next is you're going to feel better and better.
I drank heavily for thirty years. Suffered anxiety, fear and finally a horrible withdrawal. That still didn't stop me. Felt better went back to drinking.
Please don't make my mistake.
I may be able to tell you, on the other hand, that if you go back to drinking things will get progressively worse. The amount consumed, the frequency and the hangovers. Alcoholism is progressive, and if you keep drinking this is what lays ahead for us.
But you're off to a great start with five days. Good job! Just think of that first drink and where it will lead you.
I hope you find support here, and post as often as you like.
Best to you.

Welcome, Sue. I am glad you are here with us. I am not sure how much you were drinking, so my experience may be different than yours. After 5 days I began to physically feel much better. My stomach didn't ache after meals, I began to sleep better, and the fog started lifting from my thought process. I KNEW I was doing the right thing by quitting drinking. But I would experience daily (sometimes twice daily) powerful urges to drink. Expect them. Plan for them. Know how you will deal with them. My best tool was hours upon hours spent here at SR. Read the forums, post often, visit the chat rooms. I frequently logged on to SR with a burning desire to drink. I always logged off with a strong resolve not to drink. Although the urges to drink will be incredibly powerful at first, they will come less frequently over time. And they will gradually subside in intensity too. As the urges subside, you will notice literally dozens of ways in which your life will improve. Better sleep. Better mood. Better diet. Better self image. The list is endless.
Congratulations on making this decision. If you stick with it, and stay strong, your life will be much, much better for it. Good luck. And welcome.

Thank you so much, I went out for Halloween with my grandkids last night, coming home was tough right by the beer and liquor store. I know it will be a daily battle for a while but I have lost my granddad my mom and my brother to this and I don't want to be the next in line.
Congrats on five days. I drank for 34 years and stopped about ten weeks ago. It keeps getting better. I had a few urges at two weeks and eight weeks but relied on AVRT, Rational Recovery, and this forum to stay on my plan.
The best is yet to come.

Get some ice cream. Chocolate is the best, IMO. Alcohol has a lot of sugar in it and we do go through a type of sugar withdrawal. Just plain chocolate bars helped me too. Also drink lots of water, I was thirsty all the time.
The AA program has worked for me. I am seven months sober now. There are meetings all the time. Most you can find online if you google your city and AA meetings.

Hi Sue and welcome;
Congrats on 5 days! I agree you will be getting urges and SR is a great thing to do when you have them.
The ice cream (yes, chocolate) also has really helped me. I also ate a lot of dried figs the first month to replace minerals and to get a sugar fix with some nutrition and fiber.

Glad to have you join us Sue!
The support here is amazing, and you never have to feel alone with your feelings. That meant everything to me when I first quit - everyone here understood me. Congratulations on your 5 days - that's a great accomplishment.

Welcome Sue
Not everyone gets PAWs so I wouldn't worry unduly about that - the link is a good read though
After 5 days I usually started to feel better - I hope you will too
Have you seen a Dr at all?
