If beer ads were forced to be honest
If beer ads were forced to be honest
I got this in my email this morning and just had to share with you all.
Digg Videos: If beer ads were forced to be honest.

Alcohol advertising always seem so glamorous, beautiful handsome people, tropical beaches, fancy glasses with crystal clear ice and colorful fluid poured slowly in to them, yes they know what the are are doing to sell their poison.......
Haha, as a former home brewer, I never though of it with the poop analogy.
Still, just because I can't use beer, or vodka, responsibly, doesn't mean others can't.
These two ads, though clever, are no more truthful, than the one's we see on TV. Each is trying to sell a point of view.

A poison is any substance that is capable of causing injury, illness or death to an organism. Salt, water and oxygen are all poisons because in high enough quantities they can harm people. Too much salt in a diet can cause serious health problems, hyper hydration can kill athletes, and too much oxygen given to a premature infant can cause permanent blindness.
Toxicologists emphasize that “the dosage makes the poison.” Although salt, water, oxygen, aspirin, alcohol beverages, and many other substances can cause poisoning in excessive amounts, it makes no sense to call them poisons.
So why do so many groups and organizations insist on calling alcohol a poison? Apparently to stigmatize alcoholic beverages and frighten people into alcohol abstinence. The tactic was first used effectively by the Anti-Saloon League, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, the KKK and other anti-alcohol groups. The technique is still widely used today.
Honest communication doesn’t mislead or deceive. Calling alcohol a poison is misleading and deceptive.

That's a fair point NoelleR!!
I sometimes use the phrase poison to hammer home the concept of the body taking time to heal and we need to be patient with that process.
I know that's probably not strictly within the definition, but for the purposes of alcoholics, who did drink more than was healthy, a "dosage" well beyond what was healthy, it helps in getting across the understanding that the body needs time to recover from years of abuse.
But to everyone on the planet it is definitely not a poison, it depends on how it is used or abused, not everyone has a problem with alcohol consumption, and so to them the label may not fit.

Great video! "It tastes OK. Makes you feel different in a good way, but sick the next - but don't blame us..."
If I had kids I'd take them to Vancouver's Downtown Eastside and show them exactly how glamorous alcohol and drugs are in real life.

Salt, oxygen, and water are all necessary to the human body to sustain life. They are vital elements. Alcohol is not necessary for any organism, nor does it benefit any organism in any dosage.
