Mountainmanbob has 6 YEARS today!
Congrats on your significant achievement MountainBob! I have enjoyed reading about your experience, strength, and hope here on these boards. I'm only 80 something days sober and would love to hear a little about how you got 6 years.
thank you all
with time I took my sobriety for granted
stopped doing the things which helped me to get sober
deceived myself into thinking that I could control it (heard that before)
and, just like we hear around here so often
always in time followed by a still worse relapse
I just couldn't take it anymore
drinking was killing me and the loved ones around me
it's truly amazing how many worry for the alcoholic (many times in vain)
for me it's
God
church
bible studies
AA meetings
a great old AA Sponsor (he's got 23 years sober now)
a loving and supportive wife
and
boards such as this have also meant a great deal to my recovery
a place where I come often day or night
keeps me fresh
I feel for the newcomers because many remind me of me back then
(I was in a deep fog for many months after I stopped drinking this last time)
was so grateful to finally come out of that
I was scared that the haze was never going to lift
yes, we do damage sometimes while out there doing what we do
my prayer has always been
Lord - if I could help just one so as not to suffer as I did
that would be my blessing
thank you all

Congratulations Mountainman. Just went to a meeting where a good friend took a year, I watched him come in then went out myself. Quite humbling. I thanked him for showing me it can be done, and showing myself and everyone else that miracles can happen.
I extend the same to you.

Congratulations but I didn't know they had alcoholics in California. I thought everybody just surfed all day.
Thank you for posting what works for you. You are one of the miracles that was willing to do what was needed to be done in order to get sober.
For me the jury is still out on the church thing but as my sponsor says we should live our way to right thinking. My best thinking got me to where I was so like it or not I go every Sunday
