Trying to stay strong this time
Hey everyone. This is my first time on this website and I'm a little nervous to put it all out there. I have drank heavily for about twenty years. I'm now thirty nine and want to change my life for the better. I have already detoxed for twelve days and want to stay strong. I want to face each day without a headache and hangover. Tired of being sick and tired. I've never tried AA or any other group. I need tips and advice to help stop this destructive cycle. Any body out there with similar experience?

I think everyone of us has similar experiences. 12 days is great work. You can do this. This forum has been very helpful for me to maintain sobriety for the last 7 months. There are many recovery methods to choose from. AA, SMART, Lifering, or just posting here and getting support. What I have found to be crucial is that I have people to talk with that have been in the same situation. A network of support is imperative. Welcome to SR!
My experience is somewhat similar.
I tried quitting on numerous occasions, sometimes it lasted days, weeks, and months.
At 42 I finally decided to give AA a serious try. It has worked for me, I will be 2 years sober at the end of this month.
AA has taught me to how to enjoy being sober. I used to resent being sober.
I have never been more at peace with myself than I am today.

Twelve days is a great effort well done. You will probably already be feeling a little better but the best is yet to come. You will become more positive, more enthusiastic, have more energy and best of all no more hangovers. It will get easier as time passes and I get great inspiration from others with more dry time than me. It really shows that it can be done. Keep us posted on your progress.good luck.
