Self Pity Discussion at AA this moring
Boy did I need to go to AA this morning. We talked about self pity and how wonderful it feels to be out of it. Yes, there are times when it can rear its ugly head, but we need to catch it and learn to deal with it without alcohol. Just wanted to throw this out there to those of you who are in a big pity party. Pick up the AA "Living Sober" book and read chapter 22. What an eye opener!!
Wonderful to come to terms with our own BS and knock it in the eye hard. I find I can work through my self-pity if I focus myself upon observing it in myself and when found focus on changing my attitude.
I won't pretend I thought that up myself, I may have learnt it reading 'Living Sober' as I do have the book, just haven't read it in years... Another one for the rereading list, thanks for your post!

I always believed I was addicted to my own body chemistry. Angery, self pity, self righteousness, even misery release a stream of powerful chemicals. That "rush"...yeah, I was hooked. Even if the "rush" was of what we consider negative feelings, it was still a "rush". Got me worked up, roaring along in one direction or another.
I think that is why emotional management is so helpful in my sober life, because I can get right back into the "rush". I mean, it. I FEEL a tingle go through me, adrenaline kick in...if I am smack talking someone, or getting worked up over some injustice, etc...
I really need to NOT go there
