Welcome to SR! Do you want to be sober, or continue drinking?

Lots of moderation tips. None that work so far. Sorry.

One tip - if moderation was possible, we wouldn't need to be asking how to do it

Welcome to SR

wish I could continue to drink, socially. I feel like maybe if I was able to make other aspects happier in my life, I could do it. like I have done in the past. maybe that's just wishful thinking.

This is not the chat room. But you can post here and it will get responses, just not immediately.
I think everyone here is trying to live sober on this site. Sometimes we slip, but we come back and give it another go.

thanks. I better watch what I say then....considering i'm still shamefully drinking. hopefully chatting with everyone may help me out and be stronger so I can resist the bottle that seems to be taking control of me these days!

My advice on moderation = don't. Just don't. Put down the glass and don't look back. I lost five years of sobriety to "just one drink". I ended up worse than before.

Good luck and welcome! Stick around and read, post.

Sadly I can't moderate. Had to go full cold turkey. I imagine most people here will say the same. Wish i could say I could moderate. Good luck, it really is a better way of living.

Hello and welcome!!
I used to always say that I wanted to quit but I never really meant it.. I would quit for a few days but use again. But one day I was over it and I meant it and I quit everything.. That was almost 8 months ago. You just have to be ready and u have to want it. It's hard work, but extremely rewarding. You can do it!! There's support out there 😃 u made the first step by coming here, u can do this.

Hi Missnewby, I am sober, however my children are not. I think I'm addicted to helping my kids and finding the support I so desperately need. Stick around, read and post. You may find the answers that you are searching for. Welcome to SR! TF

Oh, don't watch what you say That would be no fun. The more you share the better for you and for others that are in the same situation. And don't be ashamed.

Welcome to SR missnewby. We're so glad you joined us.

Many of us weren't sober when we joined here, me included. I read so many encouraging posts I decided I wanted to be free of it. I could never control what I drank - once it was in my system anything could happen. In the end, it was much easier to just let go of it than to keep trying to moderate. I hope it'll help you to be here with us.

Thanks...how did you get sober? On your own or did you have to take classes/rehab?
