The benefits of AA
I'm an AA member and I wanted to post the benefits i get from working the AA program and attending meetings.
AA to me is not just about getting sober, it's about staying sober and taking stock of your whole life and understanding the underlying causes of addiction.
For me drinking is a symptom, it's a symptom of spiritual and emotional wounds. It is for me, a way to numb the pain of ignoring my true feelings. My meetings help me talk about what's really going on for me, preventing me from staying in denial. I pray for the courage to face my fears and because I feel like I can't do it alone, going to the meetings and having love and support helps me to get courage.
I gave up drinking but if i don't look at why i drank, the pain will always be there. For me that is no way to be happy.
I'm getting there, slowly. My higher power, the program and my right actions will get me through.

Thanks guys. I really feel like AA gets a bad wrap. Some of my family has been saved from death because of it. Those who truly work it and understand it see it for what it truly is, not just a way to get sober but a way to a spiritual and peaceful life.
