hi, in need of advice

Hi, My name is Melissa. My husband & I just had a fight... his father is an alcoholic & it is effecting our lives. My FIL has had a drinking problem as long as my husband can remember. It is part of the reason why my husband's parents separated. FIL has lived with his parents most of his life (he can't hold down a job & at 60 something years old he has stop trying). But the grandparents are well into their 90's & their in home nurse has stated FIL must move out. My husband & his uncle found a place.... less than a mile from our home, something that wasn't discussed with me & I am very unhappy about (my husband had promised he would never live with us, I view this almost as bad). FIL doesn't want to move out & now it's my husband job to deal with him.His siblings don't want to deal with it, though most live in the area & have more time than we do... Everything has been tried, he has been to a vet rehab ... he was drinking the very day he got out... it was a short program & I even thinking he was drinking while there. He has no desire to get better... jail, crashes, nearly dying has not scared him. My husband feels he's the only 1 his father has... drops everything for him. It's beyond upsetting... We're suppose to be starting our lives, we're talking about having children soon... I don't want my child expose to this... I am at a lost of what to... I love my husband, but this is tough

Hi lissa, welcome to SR. This is a great place for support. As an alcoholic, alcoholics quit drinking when they decide to. Your husband is kind and compassionate to help his father. It is a tough situation. I'm glad he is not living with you tho. Stick around. You'll get some good advice here.

to SR! I suggest you post this in our friends and family forum for additional insight from people in your shoes.

I am sorry your FIL is interfering in your lives so much.
