First sober vacation since I was probably 17.

Well tomorrow I start a 3 week vacation and I am kind of nervous about being able to stay sober for the duration. Right when I got off work my first thought was to have a drink, your on vacation. Well I didn't but I still want to just for the fact I'm on vacation. I am feeling at the mercy of the thought of going to a bar to relax and enjoy my vacation and have a beer. Still confused!!!!!!

How long have you been sober? I find it helps to 'play the tape to the end' and remember how awful I'd feel if I drank, mentally and physically.:(

It's hard but very doable. Just don't take that first drink!

I guess it's too late to say scrap the vacation, so...

Try and remember the reality of your drinking - what bought you here to SR?

do you have support lined up for the vacation? plans for what to do in testing situations?
escape plans?

I don;t think it would be a waste of time to think about that stuff.

It may not be easy and sometimes it may be uncomfortable but if you want to stay sober you can and you will :)
