Welcome allihk, you will find lots of support and understanding here. Glad you have joined us. :)

SkyeSea 10-02-2013 06:33 AM

What part of the world are you in? How are you finding day one? :)

allihk 10-02-2013 06:39 AM

I am in Australia. Should be asleep. Got to day 3. Failed. Oops

SkyeSea 10-02-2013 06:44 AM

Day 3 is a stinker - If you can over that one and to day 5, things are a whole lot easier :) Is it your first time stopping?

allihk 10-02-2013 06:48 AM

Sorry I feel quite sad and near breaking point. I thought I could just have a couple but no not true as I don't know where to stop. Am proud for a
Couple of days but then fail. How do I stop this?

allihk 10-02-2013 06:49 AM

No not first time but have failed

It is hard for some people to stop without significant support such as AA or treatment/counseling or a combination of. I'm on this site frequently throughout the day, I also sporadically attend AA meetings, I read a ton of recovery literature, I'm on depression medication, and I'm involved in counseling. Drinking for me was a symptom of much larger issues I have. That is why the counseling is important for me.

SkyeSea 10-02-2013 06:52 AM

It's all a learning curve :) You've made a good start, by finding and joining the forum :)

Welcome to SR.
Yeah, that 3rd night can be pretty tough. But,it gets better, trust me,been there a few times.
Now I'm doing much better with help from friends here.

allihk 10-02-2013 07:01 AM

Haven't tried AA. However have been on different medication and it doesn't work for me. Anyway I have said hello. Hope I can be as brave as you all are. :-)

SkyeSea 10-02-2013 07:02 AM

Trust me - if I can, you can :)
Have you checked out the October thread? It's all people stopping this month - tons of people going through exactly the same as you are right now x

You haven't failed - you just haven't found your way yet. Stick around here and read and post - post and read and then repeat lol you have the key to your success you just need to take it out your pocket and use it.

My anti D pills did nothing until I quit drinking. The change after that was dramatic - in a couple of weeks my mood had improved dramatically, and then I understood that alcohol was making me mentally ill. It wasn't helping, it was the cause of most of my issues.

Give this sobriety and your medication a chance. You won't regret it. Drinking, on the other hand, always led to regret. I hate regret.

You deserve better than this, I know you do. So go get it, alliHK. Onward!

Another 'day 1' for me too! The longest I have been able to make is about 6 weeks. However, I am not giving up! I have learned from my "failures" and I know that I will get there. You will too allihk! The important thing is that you ARE trying! Just take it one day at a time.... Sometimes I even have to take it one minute at a time and that's okay too. :)
