60 Days Today

60 days without alcohol. Day 6 without a cigarette. I've not had a single craving for alcohol for the last 13 days, but the desire for a cigarette has been almost overwhelming.

For those who keep slipping I encourage you to not give up. If you fall, get back up and recommit. Remember What Peter O'Toole said in Lawrence of Arabia, "Nothing is written".

Cheers!

I wish I could help with some solid tips for quitting cigarettes, I'm finding it much more difficult to quit smoking than it was to quit drinking. I thought I would be ok after the first 3 days, but the psychological cravings have been strong these last few days. For now I'm just white knuckling it with the cigarettes (and eating a lot). I don't care to throw away 6 days without nicotine, so I'm going to just fight on. I just keep thinking of how much healthier I'll be and how much money I'm saving.

Thankfully, I have not intention of giving up coffee or tea

Well done Feniix ! By the way, there is a strong physical addiction to nicotine. It takes about 2 weeks to get over withdrawal from that addiction. Hang in there !

Congrats on 60 days!

I guess just be mindful about the cigs. I think it's admirable to want to quit those too, but you are still so early in your sobriety. It's usually not recommended to try to quit both at once because it increases the risk of relapse from alcohol. I've heard it over and over. One thing at a time.

But some people do quit both at the same time and are successful. Personally, I've switched to an e-cig and am trying to slowly step down my nicotine levels.

Those nicotine cravings are no joke. I don't think I could have handled them at 60 days and stayed sober. Hell, I have 189 days and I don't think I'm ready to give up nicotine for good without jeopardizing my sobriety.

Cigs can kill you eventually. Alcohol can kill you tomorrow.

So just stay on your toes. Good luck!

Awesome job! I stopped the cigarettes when I quit drinking. Initially was convinced I was going to lose my mind but alas I didn't! I try to stay focused on the positive health consequences of not smoking (or drinking) anymore. Keep on keeping on!

I've never heard that quitting both can increase the chance of relapse, but I understand the reasoning. I did wait to quit smoking until I was close to 60 days because I first wanted to concentrate on quitting alcohol.

I did try the E-cigs and gum, but neither seemed to really replace the pleasure I got from smoking a regular cigarette. I also tried cutting down, and like drinking, that wasn't working out too well. And again, like booze, it's either an all or nothing proposition.

For now, I have no issues with the booze, but if I have to make a choice, I will certainly buy a pack of smokes before I ever pick-up a drink.
