The Cab Driver
I walked out of the Hotel and one of the door attendants hailed a cab for me. Minutes earlier, I was told that I was fired and that I will be going home. So, there I was trying to get out the words to talk to the door man about where I needed to go. I could not think, but I knew that I needed to get to an Airport.
When the Cab arrived, I got into the back and proceeded to call my husband to tell him that I was now traveling back. The cab driver over heard our conversation. He over heard my apologies, overhead the desperation that was in my voice. I was heartbroken. Tears and more Tears.
The cab driver looked at me when I was off of the phone, and with a thick accent he said " Maam, have faith. You will be alright." He also said;" This is the step before something great." "Have faith."
That cab driver was a light in my storm. I listened to him and said "Yes, I do understand. I just have to get through this s#it."
I awoke this morning to the memory of that man who comforted me. He was right. I wish I could tell him that his words still resonate with me. I want him to know that the "something great" has happened. I am free from alcohol today and pursuing my highest aspirations. Instead of daydreaming about what I want in my life, I am making it happen with each small step.
So, Thank you Cab driver. You were a light in my darkness!
Have Faith! This is the step before something great!

Thank you for this wonderful post. It confirms my belief that we all have parts to play in this global community. I doubt Mr. Cab Driver has any idea that the moment you shared would have such resonance in your life. To me, that is where our significance lies. We have no idea what we may say or do in the company of a friend, workmate or complete stranger that helps to ground us to one another, give hope and impact our lives.
Some people write best selling books or win gold medals to inspire others....some just give us a smile and say "have faith" : )

Beautiful, Mizz. Thank you.
And that you were able to see, appreciate, and remember that kindness in the midst of the horror and embarrassment speaks to the very beauty in your soul.
You pay it forward indeed, sister
