AA meetings work

The love and support I get from meetings this week has been wonderful. I am one week sober today. I went to 3 meetings in the last 2 days. I want to keep going and listening to stories. I feel great not drinking. I get confused about whether I'm an alkie because I'm not so cut and dried and my stories aren't as bad as others but I must look for the similarities and not the differences. My problem is a living problem and my head is a crazy and sad place sometimes. I want to heal so I want my meetings and steps.
Bring it on!

That's fantastic that you're enjoying the meetings I understand what you mean about not connecting with people's stories there, but you need to remember whatever it was that brought you to SR and then AA. (Unless of course you're a crazy person and just got bored - which I doubt)
Really thrilled for you that things are going so well

I think that has thrown many of us a long the way. The thing to focus on whether or not you meet the general definition of addiction which is persistently and compulsively pursuing a substance or behaviour despite negative consequences and attempts to quit.

Addiction (to anything) is one helluva beast to throw off your back.

I'm glad you are finding the support you need : )

The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking.

It sounds to me as if you fulfil that,it can be difficult in the early days to identify with others.

Great that you are going to keep going.

I wish you well.

Trying reading the first step from the 12 & 12. It talks about how not everyone needs to reach that bottom point of absolute desperation to seek help in AA. It's very commendable to seek out help now before your life gets to the point of some of the stories you may hear in meetings.

At if you are an alcoholic and continue drinking, it will progress to this point.

Here's the online, free version:

Well last night I had a few people relate to my sharing.
Especially the thinking part.
I do want to stop drinking, which is the requirement for membership.
I like to drink, I come from a very alcoholic family, I should stop drinking. I am on meds and I have kids.
All good reasons to stop. I want peace in my head and in my life. I want spiritual growth. It's time. So I'll keep coming back. X

P.s. THANK YOU for being there for me.

The love and support of this forum is a life saver. So are meetings. And not drinking.

I read here somewhere, "relate, don't compare." Very good advice!

Hi Rebecca,
I'm 10 months sober and attend meetings 5-6 times a week. Today, after our Big Book Study we had a BBQ in a park nearby. It was really wonderful to be able to socialize with the friends I've met. I'm the new cake person at my Sunday morning meeting. I love to bring a baked treat to the meetings I attend (even if I don't have an official commitment). Just a small way I can be of service. AA is the program I chose, it clicked with me. I know it's not for everybody. Nice to hear it's clicked for you too! Bobbi
