Starting Here

Ok, well I've been a world class grade A drunk for over 20 years. I was drinking 12 to 20 shots a night then graduated to drinking liters, and recently have been going on binges where I would drink 2 half-gallons over a weekend. I would be miserable for days afterward but then drink once I felt better. My wife left me 2 years ago, we're separated, but I'm sure we'll eventually divorce. I have 3 kids 14,17, and 20. I'm belligerent, sarcastic and angry constantly while i'm drunk or hung over.

I've had several bouts of sobriety, and have been to rehab 3 times. I've spent the last year battling with this hard wanting to remain sober. I've haven't had a drink since Sunday night (9/22/13). I'm going to use every option available to me and every avenue of assistance to not drink from here on out. So I guess here it goes ...

Welcome to SR,borediniola.
There's a lot of people that have and are quiting for good here.
Glad you found your way to this site. I was a swinging door for a few months. I'd quit for a while and within a couple weeks be back to being a falling down drunk.

Today will be 2 months for me and I'm not looking back.
Have you gone through withdrawals?

Withdrawals? Oh, yeah. Shakes, anxiety, drinking gallons of water. That's all done now. Yesterday I felt really good. Today everything is a little off: not quite right... Tomorrow will probably just be normal.

A lot of good and bad days to come. Just try to get through them one at a time. You seem like your head is in a good spot. Just have a plan when the urge hits you. Hang tough!!

welcome.....you truly are with an elite group of people. When I was going through detox, feeling like i was dying, not one person did not fail to show compassion or support! There is nothing you can say here nobody may have not been through. My signature below shows the happy faces circling around. I chose that icon because that is how i felt when i got here..broken beat and scarred....but i was rallied around with support. That is my support ring. I am now able to join this yellow person rally, lol. Hope you join the rally too soon...for now we will circle you. You will feel better in time. So welcome to SR and STAY, POST OFTEN especially during the early stages!!!!! Let us know how you are at any given moment. You cant post enough here. There is ALWAYS a hand to catch you!!!! I promise.

Good luck to you! I'm on day 51 feeling pretty good. I can even eat now and not worry about killing my buzz!

I plan on using this site a lot to help keep my priorities in order. Its pretty easy to get complacent and forget why you're not drinking...
