What happened?

My name is ryan. i am 38 years old. The title of my post is simply what I mean? What happened to my life? I have so many stories. Have all the DUI's one can handle. My wife divorced me early this year after 15 years and now I am alone. Desperately alone. I have 2 small beautiful children. I think that of risk of losing would alone end ones drinking career. Nope not mine. I took a month off work to go to rehab this month. To only find myself dropping out to stay home, alone, and hit the sauce.

I am afraid. Today is my first day sober. I am very lonely too. I have never been alone. My wife is all I knew. I guess i am very depressed. I have tried everything to quit. But I don't feel well emotionally anymore to handle the drink. So, today i made up my mind to just quit! I feel a little shaky. I have been crying all day from this mind blowing depression. I miss my family. I am a man but inside feel like a child. If this reaches you please stop before its too late. It gets worse over time. It will take your life. My family was my life and now I stand alone.....or at least it feels that way. Any encouragement is appreciated. I am a true alcoholic i can finally admit...

Welcome Ryan and congrats on taking the first step.

I totally relate to the feeling of isolation and loneliness.

Is it too late to go back to rehab? Is it something you'd consider doing?

Either way, I've found the best way to combat the feeling of being alone is to start building a solid, sober support system, be it through AA, this site or something similar. You might start feeling a lot less alone when you know you have people who care about you, support you and genuinely want to help you.

I know everyone here does.

Wishing you the best.

Hang in there mytime! My heart is breaking for you. There are so many of us trying to pull ourselves out of the quagmire of this disease. You can do it. With SR there are so many stories of people rebuilding their lives, one brick at a time. I'm there with you. Just yesterday I was thinking I can't start over again, but what's the alternative? I can't keep living like I have been. We are rising from the ashes. Love and prayers. You're doing the right thing. Time and patience are the key I think. Glad you're here.

As bad as you feel given the right moves and focus, this will be a day that you can regain your life and bend and model a new one.

Hi Ryan,

Welcome!

The very early days of my recovery were the worst of my life. I felt completely alone and lost. I understand how you feel. But, know that you can change your life and we are here to offer support.

Welcome. Some go to rehab many times. However my question is, what have you been doing in terms of a support program since leaving rehab?

Did you drop out of rehab and are doing it alone at home?

If it is your first day sober after long time drinking - I think it would be best if someone was with you. Quiting alcohol can be very hard on the body and you can not be sure how your body will react.

Welcome Ryan

The first days are rough, for nearly everyone - but there's a lot of support here - and a lot of ideas on how to maintain our recovery too.

Glad you found us

D
