One month/four weeks/28 days!
One month/four weeks/28 days!
Yep - four weeks today since I quit drinking!
The first week was tough I have to say. The second week I was drained of energy. The third week I was a bit better, but this week has been pretty fantastic!
It is the longest I have been sober in many years. I am surprised and very lucky that something seems to have clicked. No cravings and no real desire to drink for some reason after about 8 days. I suspect because of a very firm commitment leaving next to no room for ambivalence.
Good luck to anyone just starting out. It can be done - even by this old soak!

That click you mentioned happened to me nearly 90 days ago. I, too have no cravings or inclination to get drunk. After numerous attempts at moderation after my last 5 day "bender" where I very nearly lost everything that is dear to me a switch went off in my head. I realised that I'm one of the growing number of people who for alcohol self-control doesn't work.
I feel free knowing that I won't drink again because I know where one drink will lead me.
We rock!!!!

I've never been better. I just got back from my early morning 2 mile walk with the dog. It rained last night and the air had a wonderful smell to it.
In the past month my blood pressure has gone from 160/120 to 117/76 and I have lost 12 pounds.
Most importantly, I am alive and aware of my surroundings. My wife has been incredibly supportive and loves the "new" me.
I lost 34 years to heavy drinking but will make up for it with the remainder of my life by packing as much in as I can.
We are taking some friends out on our boat later this morning and later today we are off to a boat show.
Life is good.

I agree. Those of us who are making progress should try to share it from time to time, however limited it might be as in my case. Too often the difficulties in quitting seem overwhelming to newcomers!
Congratulations, Mentium! 4 weeks is great! What a great way to ring in the official day of Autumn! Enjoy this beautiful day. I am so happy for you and your accomplishment!!
Best to you,

Congrats! The one month mark really is a big deal. Your body is finally starting to get back to normal. Keep it up but don't let your guard down for a second.
