So sorry to hear that. Maybe the relationship could be repaired in the future, but no matter what state you are in, that's a f'd up thing for a parent to say.

Hi Alphabet,
My mom and I 'broke up' shortly after I got sober. I had been sober for a few weeks and just got out of rehab and she was sure I had relapsed, she was trying to control my recovery. We got into a big fight and she said she was done with me. I was sad and lonely.
I wanted to drink so badly. But I didn't. I got on with my life, what little there was to it at the time, and kept working on being sober.
We eventually mended our fences quite a few months later and have a much better relationship now than we ever did. We don't really discuss my alcoholism much these days.
Looking back, I think I had the 'I'll show her!' attitude, a little 'the best revenge is being a better person' type of mentality. Little did I know that chalking up a bunch of sober days on my calendar to partially prove a point would continue to strengthen my conviction to stay sober.

Alpha, I'm so sorry. Gigantic hug for you. It hurts to be disconnected from a parent. I experienced that with my mom who is mentally ill and drug addicted. If you want to talk about it, then we are here.

Alpha just a suggestion why not pop into the friends and family section to get their take. I by no means am siding with you dad, but maybe other parents can comfort you from their vantage point. My heart breaks for you, I know what a father means to a daughter. Hug

Thank you all, I can't find the words to express how grateful I am to all of you.
He won't listen to me. Not to make a bad situation sound worse but he's already taking care of my severely brain damaged sister.
I should write a book, huh?

I can tell you sometime as a parent when we are worried or stressed over a situation with them, we can handle it wrongly, or choice the wrong words or emotions. Maybe your dad is beaten down emotionally having to handle so much worry. Could you send him an old fashion postal card? Not an email or text a real written letter?
