Alcoholic Relapse

Today has been a bad day. Found myself on familiar ground. I'm blocking out pain with drink, and not quite understanding why?...

Thanks in advance.

Hi Julia, welcome. First get sober. Then you will be able to figure out why. Very best wishes to you dear.

We are many that have done that, it just does not help.

Numps some things but leads to a lot of problems.

Welcome to SR.

Welcome Julia. The alcohol only blocks the pain for so long. Eventually, you are going to have to deal with reality as awful as it seems. I hope you plan to get sober and are able to deal with your pain on a more level ground. Good luck!

One of my sponsors used to tell me it wasn't the "why" that was important. What was important is "what do I do now."

Alcohol never solved a thing for me, just made things worse.

When I first got sober, I was afraid of feeling my feelings! I had medicated them for years with alcohol and drugs.

I reached out for help and have had a tremendous amount of support over the years.

I haven't found it necessary to drink because I was mad, sad, depressed, anxious, bored, etc. etc. for 23 years now.

Recovery is possible.,

Gentle hugs to you.

Thank you for replying, I have many sober days but sometimes it is so hard, and it helps for just a moment but I have to think beyond.

Welcome Juilia. Sobriety is definitely unfamiliar ground for each and every one of us at first. But it's worth it - and so are you. Have you come here to find a way to quit? If so you hit the jackpot - tell us how we can help.

Hi Julie and welcome.

Drinking does, of course, make more pain rather than relieving it.

Take care of yourself.

Welcome Julia. We have to come to the understanding that emotional pain is a messenger and it is not meant to be ignored or smothered. Stifling pain is a dead end.

Welcome. Stick around and read SR. I don't know if anyone knows "why", but we all agree it sucks and it's time to change. Start with day one. That's where we all start
