Newcomer AGAIN

Well I can't say it's good to be back but it's better to be back!
15 years + and once again I'm a newcomer! Think I'll try something new, like work
the program, what a great idea.
I am grateful today, not in jail, still alive
and there is a glimmer of hope!

Welcome hookster!

15 years+, and a relapse? How long did the relapse last?

A few years ago I had almost one year of sobriety and decided a cold beer would be good. Thought this moderation thing was a piece of cake. Within two months I was back to 10+ per day. Took me 3 1/2 years to crawl back again.

You should have lots of experience and advise to share with friends and posters on SR.

Glad you're here!

I assume by "work the program" you're referring to a 12-step program. Sounds like a great idea. I found going to meetings kept me sober for the hour I was there and that's about it. I drank after MANY of them.

If you would like to, feel free to post in the 12-Step area. There are maaaaaaany awesome ppl down there but most don't venture out of the 12-step portion of these message boards. Link HERE

The 12-step area here would have saved me a LOT of time and a LOT of worrying when I was new. I could have gotten a lot of clarification and many questions answered had I known of their existence.

Thank You, I'm glad too. It's rough out there!
Iv'e struggled on and off with white knuckles for a couple years now,
but I threw myself into a program and decided to hit some meetings,
with some new found vigor, bless you for being there for all of us

Thanks to all for the support, in times like these we sometimes feel as if we don't deserve it!

That feeling of not deserving it is just a sign you need your self respect back. Like everything we have to earn it back, even from ourselves. And who is the hardest on us?

You hang in there and you'll earn it back from yourself. Then you'll feel like you deserve again. I've gained the world back by forcing myself into a second chance. Of all, regaining my self respect is the most cherished. You're halfway there. I am proud to have you back. We missed you even though we didn't know you.
