One week yesterday and can't sleep.

This is my third attempt at sobriety. The last being seven years ago. My birthday is a week ago yesterday. I have not been able to sleep before five am since. Any suggestions? How long will this last? I don't remember this from the previous two attempts.

What are you doing during the day? Sometimes you need to shake up your day activities to alleviate sleep problems.

Sleeping until noon most days. After not sleeping at night, I'm exhausted in the morning and can't even with loud alarms wake up.

Ok so it might be pretty painful but you might have to for go sleeping until noon to rewire your sleep wake cycles. If your desired wake time is say 9 am- 12am (that's late for me I'm up at 5 bed by 1030. You have to skip some initial sleep to get yourself to bed close to your desired bed time. When it's that time lights tv off soft music fan good. I use to suffer from insomnia a l

If I slept til noon everyday I would have trouble falling asleep before 5am too. Even if I wasn't an alcoholic. You need to shift your sleep cycle back to a normal schedule by waking up before noon I think.

Thank you. I will try it.

If you're able try to get some exercise during the day. It helps relax the body and mind. Insomnia can hit all of us from time to time. I recall in my first few weeks after I stopped drinking/using that sleep was hard to come by. When I did sleep I'd have dreams that were just ridiculous.

A week is huge. Keep at it! Sleep will find you soon.

Yeah, you need to shift yourself. Start getting up at 11, then go back an hour each day, no matter what... You'll get there.

I know it's hard, I have sleep problems too.

Welcome!

if my math is right you are getting 7 hours of sleep.
i would not consider this an insomnia at all... that's normal, healthy amount of time.

i certainly would not be able to fall asleep early, if i slept until noon.

as others have suggested you simply need to re-adjust your sleep cycle. either skip one day and sleep for 2 hours only i.e. 5-7 am (i know it will suck big time).. but it might make you much more sleepy the same night in the earlier hours.
exercise is very important.
go for a 45 minute walk an hour or two before you plan to fall asleep.

try natural remedies such as l-tryptophan and/or melatonin.

Exercise in a.m.? (Not that I am an example). I've also heard people say that they just let themselves stay awake and read SR or other recovery information. Eventually, they slept.
