I'm not from the UK John but there are other Brits here who may be able to share their local experience...

here are some UK links & numbers that may be useful:

The National Alcohol Helpline-UK - Tel: 0800 917 8282
Offers help to callers worried about their own drinking; support to the family and friends of people who are drinking; advice to callers on where to go for help.

UK National AA Helpline
08457 697 555

FRANK

SMART Recovery - SMART Recovery UK

Alcoholics Anonymous (Great Britain) Ltd - Home

Addaction | Drugs & Alcohol Addiction and Recovery: Support - Help - Advice - Treatment

Alcohol services | Alcohol Concern

and some NHS links
Find Support services for alcohol addiction services - NHS Choices

I think it's important to take action John - we can give you all the advice in the world but it's up to you to do the action bit

Please call those numbers to find some help. Addiction can be beat. How badly do you want to be sober?

yes, call as soon as they open, ask for an emergency appt, and be honest, dont hold back, they may get you to do a questionnaire on how you are feeling in general, mood etc, tell them honestly how you are feeling x

Hi Johnatahn. I think seeing your doctor tomorrow is a great idea. I told my doctor all about the extent of my drinking and it was such a relief. The support i have had since has been invaluable. The doctor should be able to give you advice and assistance. Its not easy to recover on our own. I got as much support as i could and it has all helped with my recovery.Wishing you well.

its all confidential dont worry all you tell the receptionist is that you need an appt, not what its concerning just that its an emergency the rest is fully in confidence with your dr, youll be ok, you need to do this ....
