How long for detox to end?

How long can it generally take for detox symptoms to go away? I haven't had a drink in like three weeks (yay for me!) and for the last week or so my head has been foggy and I've been fatigued, but not all the time, it comes and goes. Might even be my ragweed allergy kicking in, hard to tell right now.

Anyone have some experiences to share with this? Thanks in advance everyone.

I'm thinking you're experiencing something other than detox symptoms.
I was feeling much better after a week of detoxing. But,it's different for everybody.

Like you I have ragweed allergies and they have been crazy bad these last couple days.

You're done detoxing. You are just suffering good ole early recovery blues. They should pass soon, as long as you stay sober.

Good luck.

Me too, I was feeling pretty good after a week or so. Helluva time for this friggin ragweed to start blooming!

I'm planning on it and right now have zero desire to drink. Hopefully it's just this stupid ragweed making me feel spacey and tired. Yesterday was really bad, it was a damp cruddy day, sometimes that kind of weather makes allergies worse.

I'm experiencing similar things. I'm on day 28 right now. It's getting better but I still feel like I need a lot of rest and good sleep to get through this phase.

It's not detoxing, that part is over. Now it's time for your brain to re-adjust and for me that means feeling very tired as well. You say that your head is foggy and that describes it best for me as well. Difficulty concentrating, trouble staying focused. It's getting better though.

But I assume it's a normal part of recovery.

Yeah, and today,it's over 90 degrees outside here in the N.E.
It looks hazy out there it's so hot and humid.

Congrats on Day 28!
I could sleep anywhere and anytime right now, even with 7+ hours of sleep at night. Hopefully the fog will lift soon for all of us, but it's good to know we're not alone in this thing.

Day 20 for me. Feeling a LOT better than the first week of detox, but I'm still very tired. I could easily sleep 12 hours a day if left to my own devices. Mentally foggy, too.

Same here in CT where I work. Went out at lunchtime and it felt like "Africa hot".

Allergy stuff is terrible this year, I'm afflicted as well. Sometimes I couldn't tell what was hangover and what was allergies...

Me too. I nodded off at my desk awhile ago for a few minutes. Been like that since I quit but it seems to be getting better. It comes and goes in waves. I could be totally alert and hyper one minute and the next minute it's like nap time at the old folks home. Weird.

BTW, congrats on the 20 days!

Allergy season was the worst when I was a beer drinker, it just totally stuffed me up for some reason.

The PAWS information was extremely helpful, thank you Lorelai!

I've been doing my best to eat and sleep like a normal person (which, after years of daily drinking is no small task). Looks like I should step up my exercise, too. I occasionally go for brisk walks, but only for about 15-20 minutes at a time, every other day.

Yep. Nap time at the old folks home sounds about right! Interspersed with brief periods of racing thoughts, rapid heart rate. I still wake up in cold sweats, too.

I had terrible PAWS for three months, and it gradually eased up until I had a year sober. Three years now. Yep, healing can hurt a bit, but it heals what can be, and we can deal with the rest sober.

BalinChane 09-11-2013 05:05 PM

One thing I noticed is that mornings are worse for me. Seems like after lunchtime or so I start feeling more normal. I did take an adrenal test a few months ago and everything was good so it's not that.

Right there with you. Slept 13 hours last night. Could barely get out of bed. I took a Claritin d - and finally got some relief. Not sure if the ephedrine was a good idea or not.
The ragweed and mold levels in The Midwest are borderline dangerous.
