Three Weeks Today
Today marks three weeks since I drank last. Feels like longer, but I just wanted to share some of my observations.
- I've lost five pounds
- I don't wake up in the middle of the night worrying about how I'm destroying my body.
- No hangovers!!!
- Saved $$ by not buying booze
- Realizing that I can still relax without drinking
- I'm able to remember my conversations with people
- Rosacea has cleared up
- I look/feel less puffy and bloated
What's helped me get here:
- All the support on these forums
- Having a partner who also quit drinking
- Remembering horrible events from three weeks ago that caused me to quit in the first place
- Reading as many books as I can find about peoples's struggles with alcohol
- Looking at my children and realizing that they deserve to have a mother who is fully engaged and present
- Lots of vitamins, water, and frozen yogurt
Honestly, I don't really think too far past today. If I have to think of a life without alcohol again, it seems pretty daunting, so I really just focus on today. And for all those just quitting, please realize that it DOES get better. You won't think about drinking 24/7. Once you go a week or so without it, you realize that there are lots of other things to do to keep yourself busy and occupied.
Thanks to all who have helped me here.

Congrats Celticgirl on 3 weeks! Awesome! I was a lot like you...I struggled with insomnia because I would worry over my health and how I might be destroying my body.
I am now over 4 months sober, and my bills are paid, I am 40 pounds lighter, and am finally able to pay bills on time.
Some days are harder than others , but I am so much happier.
Keep up the great work!!!!
