What's happening to me?
I'm not complaining about it, but can someone explain what this is?
I stopped drinking and smoking weed (I was at 1 pint/day of Vodka, and about an 8th per week of very strong hydro) about 18 days ago.
I also stopped smoking cigarettes (Using Allen Carr's method).
I feel soooo much better than I did, but I'm noticing something new when I fall asleep:
As I start to nod-off to sleep I get a feeling of intense pleasure (what I imagine an opiate to feel like) starting in the back of my head, and traveling down my spine. It feels wonderful and relaxing, but I've never felt anything like it before. It is very strong.
Even an afternoon nap is giving me this feeling.
What the hell is it, and why is it so strong?
Anyone know? I assume it has something to do with the changes occurring in my body, but that's all I can guess at.
I like it, but I'm confused by it.

I didn't even think of that. But I don't remember ever feeling this when I wasn't drinking. I'm not saying I don't like it, because I do. I just don't understand it. It's not sexual; not like an orgasm or anything like that. It's like a drug. It lingers for a while after I wake.
Maybe its my circulation getting better. I don't know. I just worry that it might be something bad (even though it doesn't feel bad).
I mean, it's not tearing me apart or anything; I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this, or if they know what it is.
Curious.

Lol, Dee.
Kit, I have no biochemical background whatsoever, but I wonder whether it's related to cortisol (which runs rampant when one drinks and which increases tension) and GABA (which is diminished by alcohol and, generally, is involved in relaxation). They're both critical to sleep, and could impact feeling good vs feeling tense right before sleep.
When I fall asleep I sometimes feel like I am being dragged down into Hades by the iron jacket someone threw on me, and sometimes feel like I'm on a warm cloud that sends tinges down my spine. I've always thought that the former happened when I was over-tired or had had a sedentary and fatty-food-filled day, and the latter happened when I went to bed tuckered out from the right amount of physical activity.
Whatever it is, enjoy it! It sounds lovely.

Dee: that came across. It was just funny because it was obvious in a non-obvious way. (I.e., obvious once you say it, but it wasn't the first thought to cross my mind either.) An, "ohhhh...duh!" kind of funny.
You answer made me chuckle as well Dee serious or facetious love the off the cuff bluntness!
Congrats on quitting all you did that is no easy task and quite commendable. Sounds like a fab way to fall asleep.

I think it might be ASMR (Autonomous sensory meridian response), which I'm okay with.
If it is, I hope it lasts!
The only problem I have is that I'm having trouble falling asleep.
I just sort-of... hover on the edge, with this immense pleasure.
Sounds like fun, but I'm not getting the rest my body needs, and I'm tired all the time.

I don't know what you are feeling, but maybe give yourself some time. There were a lot of chemicals running around in your body, which are hopefully declining.
Your body may be re-booting like a computer! And it's under some stress.
Voluntarily falling asleep is learned behavior. When we were kids, we learned how to put ourself to sleep peacefully.
You may be out of practice on how to sleep without alcohol and drugs. Have a routine that is usually the same...wind down to bedtime, read, play music...whatever. New habits usually take three weeks to sink into our system.
Pleasant dreams!! And welcom to SR.

sobered up many times and never got anything like that
but
it don't sound bad compared to what many suffer with when sobering up
usually ones here will say to see a doctor ASAP
this sensation seems more like a blessing ???

I would say if its pleasurable , go with the flow and enjoy the ride. Its not chemically enhanced or alcohol induced.
Maybe there is a God. ;-)
I cant imagine anything sinister going on if its pleasure related lol
I'll have what keepittogether is havin' .
