Hello, day 2 for me
Hi,
my name is Kit and I've been sober since September 3rd. I'm a binge drinker and decided that it was time to stop. I had enough of the hangovers, the embarrassing moments, sending my every feeling to everyone in my phone book, and most of all, sick of my anxiety problem not getting any better. I've tried the moderation thing and realized it didn't work for me when I actually had to TRY.
I'm not going to AA (don't feel I need to-yet) but have been lurking here and it's already helped me so much. I'm not much of a long term thinker (the idea of "forever" terrifies me) so I'm going with the "TODAY I am not drinking" mentality.
Looking forward to being sober with you all.
Kit

Welcome Kit! We're so glad you found us.
Not being alone in this fight is so important. You'll find many here to relate to and gain strength from. You sound ready to do this - and you'll never regret getting free.

Hi and welcome Kit,
I read SR first thing in the morning it's a great way to start the day with my fellow problem drinkers and remind myself I am not alone.
You are so right about moderation, I tried that for years without success.

Hello joshlyman
nice to see you out from the 'lurking' side
"Forever" is a mind trick and a counterintuitive one at that. The fear part comes from the addicitive part of us that doesn't want to let go. The real part , the rational part, can come to understand that 'forever' is potential, all there really is is the 'now', forever just being the cummulative 'nows'. Try to see if your rational part can be comfortable with , not drinking now(comma)forever It's weird and takes getting used to , but once you get the 'zen' of it, it actually makes sense
wish you well (forever)

Welcome, Josh. I hope you will keep posting regarding your progress and your struggles. I have found that to be very helpful. The chat room also is a great place for immediate feedback and support. Good luck. We are all in this together.
