Pretty sure I've substituted fruit for alcohol

Going to the farmers market every other day now getting fruit. All kinds of fruit.

Grapes, blackberries, raspberries, plums, nectarines, peaches, blueberries even mango.

Never really been much of a fruit eater but for whatever reason now I cannot get enough.

I suspect I will have to cut it back a bit soon but for now - I'm just digging in.

Anyone else experience this during sobriety? Is it just another way of getting my sugar fix?

Bob it could be ice cream for alcohol. At least you're into something healthy, unlike me.

Hey Bob,
They only thing I can think is you body is craving sugar, alcohol is sugar thats why so many alcoholics are diabetic's, but its good the sugar is natural for the time being.

Bob, I am doing the same thing. I have fruit throughout the day. Our bodies can convert the fructose to glucose quickly. I think the abrupt stop in alcohol intake probably leaves one slightly hypoglycemic. I have also noticed if I allow myself to get hungry I start to feel light-headed and irritable.

Out of pure love I was going to say "Oh shut up Bob, be thankful it isn't ice cream!"

That's my big thing these days. However, LadyinBC, I have discovered GRAPES! Red and green seedless, nice and cold out of the fridge. I also buy those light mini babybells to go with them. That's lunch every day. At least it keeps me away from the ice cream!

lol bob, I know exactly what you mean, more specifically for me mandarins and bananas, also yoghurt. Upshot is I have dropped a dress size in 3wks...yay. Downside is it's getting expensive.

I would also say its a sugar fix as well as a vitamin fix. Some say your body will crave what it needs.....?

Bob you need to add bing cherries to your list. They are so good and very good for you. Fruit is a healthy alternative if you are craving sweets. Great source of fiber too.

I guess fruit is better than ice cream (hmmm ice cream - never thought of that) - but ya - it is expensive. Just a tiny basket of organic raspberries is almost 5 bucks!!!

Still probably cheaper than my drinking habit though.

OH I hear you all! Ice cream..hell yeah (rarely touched the stuff previously). Grapes (and cheese) yup yup yup. I'm partial to the little round red seedless ones. And um..chocolate..and Willy Wonka Sweettarts..and cheesecake..and and and..

So ya I'm with Lady...shut up Bob. (jokes...envious it's only fruit for ya!)

[Shakes head.] What, you're too good for fudge cake and cheez whiz now, Bob? This is why the rest of us all make fun of you guys out in California.

Just joshing. Sounds like a wonderful expression of your body's return to function and a great way to turn the sugar cravings into something healthful and delicious. Also makes me really, really crave a good mango.

Ice cream, cookies, and fruit.

Lots of juices. Crushed ice and a blender. Been amazed at the alcohol-free beverages I can make in 5 minutes or less. Recently found the recipe for a Caramel Latte with whipped cream.

Being sober is so much fun!

I was especiallyt partial to the red ones, but I liked them cold and very firm. Not mushy! I sometimes ate a bag a day.
