Why do we do this? Why do I?

Yes, the obvious answer is that I am an alcoholic.

I'm a smart guy. But I am screwing my life up.

Maybe I have drank too many brain cells away.

However much I hate it, its Day 0.

I dunno - I'm a smart guy too - but I believed I was so smart I could beat the odds and manage, somehow, to gain control of my drinking.

No ones that smart - not when alcohol owns you the way it did me.
Accepting that changed everything for me.

It's not about intelligence. Its a visceral thing...I craved drinking.

I needed to break that cycle for good. Abstinence worked for me.

That really is the crux of it, isn't it. Alcohol owns me. And I am not the type of person that is owned by anyone.

I did it for two months before. And I was happy. So now its 2 seconds. Then 2 minutes. And who knows. maybe someday 2 decades.
