The sun came out...

The sun actually started to shine when I signed on today. Coincidence I don't think so. This forum is giving me hope even though I failed to stay sober. All it took was news that my son did not get a job he was so hoping for and getting off early and I am back to my usual coping skills...drinking wine.

Those aren't coping skills... But you know that already. Try again tomorrow!

Agreed. Drinking is the opposite of coping, it's avoiding and ignoring. Please try again.

Being here counts. Acknowledging you have a problem counts. And your hopeful thoughts count. I really should have included a smiley. I didn't mean to offend.

The plan is to not drink tomorrow...other than that not really. I would love to go back to an old AA meeting I used to attend (over 10 years ago) but I have a little dog who will be alone over 10 hours and I won't leave him alone any longer than that. Thanks for the response.

Hi Joyousone

I had that one and only coping skill too - but I learnt new ones.
Have you heard of urge surfing?

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...e-surfing.html

It really helped me to realise that when I got a craving to drink, I didn't have to follow through on it, and when I stayed sober whatever situation or bad feeling triggered me usually sorted itself out anyway

I think SR is an awesome place too - if you use it when you're struggling and wanting to drink - we'll get you through that...

D
