I have decided to go to AA meetings again

So the past 3 days I drank and drank and drank, slapped my friend broke a ceramic decoration from falling over drunk. I rambled on and on about wanting to die, to kill myself and I don't remember ANY of this! I am a worthless individual unless I start doing some work for recovery.

Please, any support and advice would be helpful. I feel like i'm dying over here. I'm dizzy and tired and am stuck here at work while I am required to be on my feet for 8 hours.

I hate myself, embarrassed myself again and am ready to call it quits.

You are no sicker than I was. AA saved my life. Go to a ton of meetings, find someone that is happy with themselves and life in general, has long-term sobriety, then do what they do. Not some of it all of it. unfortunately doing 50 percent of AA doesn't get you 50 percent sober. It gets you 0 percent.

You can do it millions have

Hey Nevar!
I left AA after a stint nearly 20 years ago;left to become "a moderate drinker", didn't work out too well, for old masochist me.

Back again this year and really moving well!

That is great!! there are other ways its just none of them ever worked for me. AA was my last resort it was either that or death and I was too chicken to commit suicide. I would wake up every morning and I was still alive. AA gave me a plan for living and a way to stay sober a day at a time

You can do it. Be honest, open and most importantly willing to do whatever it takes to get sober. Get to a meeting. Get a sponsor and work the steps. And, don't drink TODAY. Good luck. We are here for you.

You're never alone. Most of us have been through this same thing many times. You are still posting here and wanting to change - that's what counts. Please be kind and patient with yourself - you can heal from the damage and have a new life. I think trying AA is a great idea. Please let us know how you're doing Nevar. We care about you.

Good that you're back here, excellent plan in place and you CAN do this!

Let me pass on a message of hope from Dr Bob:

But if you really and truly want to quit drinking liquor for good and all, and sincerely feel that you must have some help, we know that we have an answer for you. It never fails, if you go about it with one half the zeal you have been in the habit of showing when you were getting another drink. Your Heavenly Father will never let you down!

I was told this over 33 years ago and, through the grace of God, have not needed to pick up a drink since, no matter what.

A point will come and probably soon where you will see its not a punishment, you look forward to it because it makes you healthy. Put the bat down and quit beating yourself with it.

Respectfully disagree with this! There are some people who have been sober for years, decades and stay sober by going to AA without doing all 12 steps.

NevarCiots, have you tried inpatient or outpatient rehab?

First, put down the bottle and seek medical help if needed for withdrawing.

This time when you want to go to an AA meeting...give your local AA hotline a call and ask someone to call you, and set up a 12th step call.

I work a hotline and would be glad to talk to anyone wanting info. on AA.

Have someone visit you or take you to a meeting.

Don't do this yourself. Also, you will help someone out by having them help you. It is the crux of the program.

My best to you...sobriety isn't a goal but a way of life.

Working the AA steps has completely changed my life....so much more than just stopping drinking....you can do it...I believe you can live a happy and productive life.

My SR friend, you never need to be alone again. That is where AA can step in and provide you with fellowship.
