As a newbie, I have a question. What does 'closed' mean when listed on an AA meeting?

For alcoholics only as opposed to open meetings (often speakers meetings) which are open to anyone interested.

Anyone who seeks to quit drinking is welcome at a closed meeting. Don't worry, everyone at a closed meeting will assume you're there because you want to quit drinking.

Hi Maestro, sometimes people will bring husbands, wives, or friends for moral support to open meetings. This is not allowed in closed meetings. In closed meetings only a person who is either considering joining AA or is currently in AA are allowed. Only the alcoholic or addict.
