When I was in detox in the hospital the first thing they do is give you a vitamin b12 shot. (If you are a drinker anyway)

Hi. The bottom line is just don't pick up the first drink. Simple yes but not always easy. I and many needed AA for the long term benefits. Others use this forum which offers much good help and encouragement. Some can just stop and never look back. BE WELL

Hey cheryl, I'm glad you're back and trying again. Advice for day 1...take it one hour at a time, one minute at a time if necessary. Go easy on yourself - get plenty of rest. If you feel you need medical attention, seek it immediately.

Welcome Cheryl, i would say keep hydrated, eat something and keep yourself distracted so you have less time to think about drinking. If you start to feel unwell seek medical attention. Good for you for deciding to make a start on getting well. I hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like you are on the right track. Just avoid the poison that landed you here.

Just hang in there, keep busy, pray or meditate to calm your mind and heart. Drink lots of water and as others have said if you don't feel well make sure to seek medical attention. Positive energy goes out to you and I hope you find the peace that you are searching for.

Think too, that with each passing day, you'll begin to feel better and better! Don't sell yourself short.
Try to set some positive, healthy goals for yourself!
Just make it to Day 2!
Good luck, and stick around!

I did day 1 many times and always did whatever I didn't do when I was drinking. It's hard to drink at the library or on the treadmill at the gym!

Go for a long walk and actually use your senses. Smell the trees, hear the birds, see the clouds. Focus on everything you always have ignored.

Hey Cheryl! There's a lot of time for you to fill now that you're not drinking. I would suggest that you get together with like minded individuals such as in an AA meeting. AA is a great place to spend sober time. Reading about recovery during down time is good too. Try to give yourself a schedule throughout the day so you don't find yourself facing large chunks of time you would typically spend drinking.

Give your body what it needs, but give it healthy fruits and veggies and light protein like chicken or turkey. No pig out at McDonalds.

My dog gets a lot more walks now that I'm not drinking. he appreciates it a lot. Of course I did walk him once in awhile when I was drinking, but have a lot more motivation to get out of the house now.
