Very new and have first AA meeting tonight !

HI all, Im a very tired butterfly Im a classic binge drinker. I have no problem going weeks without a drink but a soon as I go out I cant stop. It then builds up with me going out more and more untill eventually 'something' happens. This is usually me being agressive or getting myself into an inappropriate situation for a happily married woman :/

The later happend at a wedding last weekend. So enough is enough. I gave up the drink for a few weeks a year ago after eating the head off a friend. But find it sooo hard not to drink when I go out.

I also have the added 'problem' that my friends and hubby think Im too hard on myself and that I dont have a problem, I just go too far every once in awhile.
But im sick of waking up in my own vomit wondering what I said or did...so NO MORE.

I have my first meeting tonight and am very nervous. Im from a small town so am dreading that people might know me. Also not sure what happens there.
Can I ask how do a get a sponsor and where do I get the Big Book ?

Thanks for any support

Go to the meeting and just introduce yourself to the first person you meet at it and say it is your first time. They will take everything from there.

Go in with no expectations and really listen to the advice that is given about looking for the similarities rather than the differences. Just absorb what is going on.

And well done. Getting to that first meeting is a struggle but its a massive leap forward for you. And enjoy it. Believe it or not you will find, if you stick around, that you will laugh far far far more than you will cry in AA.

Also, being a newcomer, you will be the most important person in that room. AA is there for you because our collective sobriety is reliant on people coming to us and looking for a solution. I really cannot emphasise that enough.

Welcome.

Hi. I agree. You'll be made SO welcome and will enjoy the experience Don't worry about anyone knowing you - they are there for exactly the same reason that you are, after all.
Welcome to SR also x
