Depression?

Ugh today is day 4 and out of no where I got this over whelming sense of sadness. Ive been a bit irritable the past few days, but not sad. Anyone else ever had this happened when they quit? its like just a real lonely feeling and I havent been able to shake it all day. ugh

Yes I can definitely relate and I'm sure many other people can as well. The first few weeks is like a roller coaster of emotions. Hang in there!

I think most of us feel a little low for at least a few days - we're used to the kick of addiction....it takes a little while to re accustom ourselves to sobriety

stay with it

Depression is a real common side effect to quitting alcohol. You're normal in that sense. It'd be odd if you didn't feel some depression. It does go away though. Sooner than you realize. Keep up the good work!

Yes, I think sadness can take place when we quit. There could be a number of reasons for this. Hormones, adjusting to not giving our brain alcohol, life. I think you are doing fabulous. You can do this.

Hi Natasha,

Your feelings are not uncommon. Look at it as a grieving process. I personally felt like I had lost my best friend when I quit drinking. You will go thru different stages of this from sadness, anger, resentment, denial etc.

You will make it through this. You can do this, just hang tight and ride them out.
