Hi i'm new

Hi,

I'm just saying hi. I've tried giving up the booze for a year or so now, but i got a bit of a shock health wise and had paramedics pick me up and stuff. I thought i was having a heart attack, but i was lucky. It was sounding like kidney stones or kidney issues, but my xrays didn't show anything up. The doctor did say i should cut down the booze though even though i have decided to give it up for good this time, and i cant drink occasionally either, it doesn't work. Before yesterday when i went to hospital, i used to have 10 cans every day of lager and have done for a good couple of years now.

I've tried to give up before, and tried to keep the habit but just drinking alcohol free beers. I've decided not to go down that route this time. It just slipped until we still have those unopened in the house from months ago.

Anyway, i'm just saying hi. This seems like a great network for me.

Welcome uksupport! Glad you found us. I think you'll find the encouragement you need here.

I couldn't drink occasionally either. Spent many terrible years trying to. I think your plan to give it up for good is very wise. I'm sorry for your health issues - but this can be a whole new beginning for you. Happy you are here.

It means Addictive Voice. Referring to the voice in your head that tells you to keep using the substance you're addicted to even though you want to quit.

Welcome to SR Uksupport

There are a few of us from around your way here

AV comes from the technique AVRT (Addictive Voice Recognition Technique) which is a major part of Rational Recovery, an alternative to recovery methods. Well worth looking into.

You'll find lots of information here to help you along your way and plenty of support too. There is also a lot of face to face support you can get in the UK too. Aside from the usual AA meetings there are SMART meetings dotted about and also a lot of meetings and one on one support which is available from alcohol addiction agencies. If you google this in your local area or ask drinkline (0800 917 8282) you should be able to find something.

Glad you're here x

Hello UK!! Google AVRT and look for the one on the Rational Recovery website. I have found this to be helpful resisting temptation .
