Day 1 again. After a week long beer binge I am going to give sobriety another shot and hopefully I can stay on the straight and narrow. |
I'm positive that you can if you really really really want sobriety! Check in often for support!! |

Welcome back to freedom :) m |
Good choice. Have you got a plan of action? |
I don't really have a plan aside from not picking up beer today. I really need to stop, and hopefully stay stopped this time. I went to a few AA meetings last time and just found it wasn't for me. Any other suggestions. |
Simply "not drinking" never worked for me bndb. Have you tried any of the other methods like AVRT/Smart/etc? Or how about seeing if there are any outpatient or counseling programs in your area? Don't completely dismiss AA either, maybe try a different meeting or try having a more open mind. I'm guessing binge drinking "isn't for you" either, right? Getting sober means change - and you won't like some of it initially, but it's worth it in the end. |
The one thing I will say about AA is that it is the only place i go where I feel people know what I have experienced. I got over the "god" stuff when someone told me that all I had to know is that I wasn't it. There are many other sobriety sources, and I try to use them all: Rational Recovery, SMART. AVRT? (someone help me here)... Others will be along soon. Hang in there! |
You can do it! Get some support, and talk to people if you feel like picking up...it does help to have a sober network around you x |

Nuudawn you are always full of helpful suggestions; thanks!!! |
Great to see you back and giving it another go, bdnb74. I have no suggestions other than to echo what people have said about not dismissing AA/looking into the alternatives. And I highly recommend reading the threads mecanix linked to. :) |
Hi bdnb74, its my 7th day of recovery too, I was on beer too and its the same thing like drinking any other alcohol, it burns you from inside, makes you fat from outside and gives you hangovers. Good luck my friend, we can do it together. |
Bdnb, and you can stay on the straight and narrow! Rootin for ya. :egypt: |
Hi I'm day one again too. I can't remember the last time I went more than a week without drinking. Terrible. :) I went 45 days once though. That was cool and I felt great and I want to do it again. |
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will give AA another go as well try some other suggestions. Its funny how great you feel a week or two into sobriety and one day your AV gets away and you're back to square one and feeling ******. Thankfully this time around I am not sick or full of anxiety like the last time, but this bender was shorter than the last. One of the reasons I really need to quit drinking is I am on medication that is hard on the liver to start with, adding booze is just going to kill it faster. |
Day 2 and feeling good. I had a good night sleep and still no signs of withdrawl symptoms. I plan on going to a nice walk today and at some point do some more reading on AVRT. |
Does anyone know if AVRT books are sold in book stores or just sold online? |
